A nice, original American Flyer No. 989 Northwestern Reefer -- 1956-1957

Here we have a nice and all original American Flyer by Gilbert No. 989 Northwestern Refrigerator Line Reefer. This one dates to the 1956-1957 time period as it was part of the 980-series line of colorful box cars and reefers that were created to compete with Lionel's 6464 line of box cars. These cars came in several more expensive sets and were available for separate sale. This one is all original and shows very little track time. There is some very small spotting of rust on the frame and one door guide. The brake wheel is present and the catwalks are perfect. Yes, I did note that there are just three pins holding the frame to the body. However, upon further inspection Gilbert never drilled that hole out. It will not take a pin, so a minor factory error there. Both knuckle couplers work well. T

Train Shows are returning!! Finally. I will be doing the five Dupage County Fairground shows in 2021 starting with the show on August 8. I will also be doing a Great Train Expo Show on Aug. 14-15. I will also be doing other shows during the fall and winter, but waiting for dates to be confirmed. I hope to see many of you back on the road.
