S
tandards gage
for
Hi- rail
American Flyer 'S" gauge trains.
This stainless steel
standards gage
has been created by
Ficus Products
Tm
for all
Hi-Rail
"S" gaugers. For
American Flyer 3/16 gauge or 1/64 - "S" gauge trains
This is an item U buy once - it will last forever.
Tool/Gage is designed to set or maintain the major aspects of "S" gauge railroading. It helps to set
{as the picture indicates}
:
T
rack width--
W
heel spacing,
A
xle projection from a wheel face {short & long}.
Short
is usually found on link trucks.
Long
is usually found on Sintered Iron /cast or PikeMaster trucks.
The
hole
in one end is also used to position a wheel over start the axle thru the wheel. ( you must have space under the gage to permit the axle to protrude thru the wheel ). Once thru the wheel, the correct distance is determined by the wheel spacing portion on the TWAG plate { for the second wheel }
Plus a reference to coupler height (depending on your type). This aspect can be tuned for setting your particular type coupler).
Note: wheel spacing is the same for all "S" gauge,
regardless of truck type.
This will prevent you from experiencing the frustrating problem of car derailment due to improper wheel spacing.
Note: U may notice the axle/ wheel set in the picture has the wrong spacing and requires adjustment to conform to the std. track width.
Small Instruction sheet accompanies each TWAG order.
Please see the
pictures for an
illustration as to the different features of the
TWAG.
G
age features include:
Track width {I.D.} for "S" gauge) =
875" This
dimension
is a referenced to the (ORIGINAL) flyer track. O
ther code track could be different due to rail size.
Axle thru wheels ( both long and short axles) -- this is a starting point when installing wheels onto axles.
Pix 5 & 6
Wheel spacing (critical for good operation). All Wheels are Not the same and measuring inside the wheels result in incorrect setting.
Flange heal to Flange heal is the only correct way. The 3rd & 4th photos illustrate the reference to the flange and adjustment is indicated on these axles
Coupler height (from railhead --- in
reference to a std Flyer knuckle coupler)
) -
Note: This tang can be tuned to
correlate with the type track & coupler of your choice.
The nubs that reference the track height to coupler may need trimmed a bit {or simply use the gage over the ballast between ties}. This feature can be tuned for the newer track types {code 100 and the like}. As noted in the pictures I made these the longest of all for the old Flyer HI-rail track.
