    Description

The Order of the Black Eagle was established by the Elector of the German state of Brandenburg in 1701.  He would soon become the first king of Prussia – Frederick the First.  The award was Prussia’s highest.  The next lower award is the Red Eagle.  The Order of the Black Eagle was both a military and a civil award.  This beautiful replica is the breast star of the order.  It has the Prussian eagle in the medallion and the motto of the order, “Suum Cuique” – to each his own. Since the breast stars were made by jewelers, there were a number of variations.  My replica is a silver (plated) eight-pointed star with rays, a popular motif. It weighs 2.8 oz. (78 grams) and measures 9 cm across.  It has a pin and catch mechanism very similar to the originals and the workmanship is superb.
