Description
ROYAL HOUSE ORDER OF HOHENZOLLERN COMMANDERS CROSSThe Hohenzollern Commander's Cross was awarded for military action, the version with swords for bravery in combat.
It was given to the highest ranks. The award was established in 1851 by King Frederick William IV of Prussia.
The commanders grade was awarded from 1864 to 1918.
This reproduction consists of gilded cross with arms with rounded ends. The cross arms are white enamel with a black border.
The center of the front and back has a round medallion with motto and inscription.
Between the arms of the cross and around the medallions a green enameled
laurel (left side) and oak leaf (right side) wreath.
At the top of the cross arm is a gold-plated Prussian royal crown.
The medal comes with 12 inches of the appropriate 55 mm ribbon.
The dimensions are 97 mm high and 65 mm wide.
Seller's note:
The original medals had a vertical metal bar behind the crown through which the ribbon would be run. Our reproduction is quite heavy (101 g.) and we have not been able to replicate this method successfully - the bar often came loose.
Instead we mounted a ring on the orb of the crown through which an oval loop is attached for the ribbon. This ring can be removed. Keep in mind that m
any of the originals were made of solid gold, the weight of the medal being only around 36 grams, hence the bar method of attachment was adequate.
