Final 2 photos shows how this item is being used on our in-store Goldfish Holding Tanks (we do not actually use the box lid). We have a canister filter feeding into the Top Filter Box which is filled with Bio-Media, soil and Live Plants. Once the water passes through, it drains into the tank for very effective biological filtration. Goldfish in great numbers are a huge bio-load. We have absolutely ZERO problems with this setup!
