Vintage WW2 Victor Berge Ohio Rubber Co Shallow Water Diving Helmet Mask Scuba

Description

This full face mask was invented by a man named Victer Berge in the 1940s.  It has always been referred to as a shallow water helmet, even though there is no protective metal head covering.  Sometimes it is referred to as an ORCo helmet or mask due to the maker being The Ohio Rubber Co.   This mask is in very good condition.  The rubber is stiff, but no cracking or rotting.  The sealing edges have curled inward so it would probably not be possible to get the rubber to seal on your face.  The air would be pumped down to the metal fitting in the nose of the mask and the extra air and exhaled air would bubble out around the edge.  Some of these masks had been adapted to a crude sort of scuba equipment.  The previous owner had attached a piece of wire between the strap attachment points so he could hang it on the wall for display.
